Hannah is a countryside artist working primarily in pencil to record the details in the hedgerows and fields around her. She works from a garden studio in the village of Morebattle, near Kelso.
She aims for her drawings to be delicate and calm, carefully observed and full of character. Her work captures a moment in time and conveys the sense of stillness and peace that she feels when she is in the countryside. Hannah would love to think that her drawings inspire people to reconnect with the natural world, and perhaps to even have a go at recording it for themselves.
Working in pencil is a slow practice which involves building up layers of marks to describe the subject. Using such a method, and watching an Image slowly emerge from the page, is an incredibly satisfying experience.
Hannah is largely self- taught, and has a degree in Divinity. She regularly undertakes private commissions as well as commercial illustration work. She also runs a business creating a range of cards and illustrated stationary which is sold through retail outlets worldwide.
