A Fine Art graduate of Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art, Claire is a practising painter working in oils
Claire uses her observations of her surroundings to explore intricate tones and colour juxtapositions. With pared down and minimal composition and working often within a square format using strong horizontals, she uses repeated motifs such as the tree to draw the eye into her exploration of the painting surface. Claire hopes to reveal on closer inspection a quiet, restrained yet rich palette of colour and tone, echoing the landscape spaces she encounters.
Retaining a sense of the hand in a variety of mark making is an important part of the work and her larger paintings take time to complete as she builds up many layers of colour. Claire wants to create something to look at which is dynamic and interesting yet at the same time calm, composed and balanced.
