Penny Lyall was born in Lincoln, England. She studied at Lincoln College of Art in the early sixties. She came to Edinburgh with her husband in 1969, but moved back to Oakham in England 2 years ago.
Penny has been a regular exhibitor with us through the years.
Her paintings were accepted for the 2008, 2009, 2014, 2015, 2016 and January 2017 RSW exhibitions at the National Gallery and the Meffan Gallery, and she won the Art award in a recent Pentland Inspiration competition run by the Pentland Regional Park.
Penny is captivated and influenced by the changing colours and shapes of the local landscapes throughout the year and, in her paintings, tries to capture that atmosphere and movement in simple flowing strokes with colour and form. Working mainly in watercolour, she has been influenced by Scottish painters, Joan Eardley and William Gillies.
