Artist Nicholas King has been a dedicated painter all of his life. Moving from school to York Art College and on to Loughborough University where he achieved a BA Hons in Fine Art Painting.
On his return to York with partner Francesca King, he opened Elemental Works, a studio and gallery space at 33B Fossgate York, which came runner up in the Princes Youth Business Trust Competition in 1999. With the Trusts support Nicholas was able to invest in technology and apply this to his work.
The gallery closed after only a year and with this turn of events allowed Nicholas to concentrate on teaching himself to use modelling, animation and video editing suites. His work has included images and films for York TV, Day Break Productions and York Film Festival. He has been a Film studies Tutor at York College, and sculptor in residence at York Castle Museum.
Throughout this he has always returned to painting in oils, perfecting his smooth application of colour for portraits, then by contrast producing highly textured paintings and collages. As Nicholas` technical knowledge grew he became increasingly interested in the art of Digital imaging and printing. Combining his skills as a painter and using live models he has begun to explore this exciting way of producing art work.
